What are the benefits of a Post-Surgery bra?

Who will fit my Prosthesis?

Liz Brett at Pure Breast Care will fit your prosthesis. Liz is a professionally experienced BC consultant post surgery and is always available to provide a private, friendly service. Pure Breast Care has the best lightweight, modern products specifically designed for your comfort and peace of mind.

Who are the Pure Breast Care team?

The Pure BC team is headed by Liz Brett, an experienced breast care consultant. In October we welcomed Faye James, the new Business Development Manager, who previously worked at the Cancer Society for 25 years as Leader of Fundraising and Special Events. Most recently, Kerri Rusher and Rochelle Key have joined our professional breast wear services team. Charlie Pearson is the Pure BC website manager.

What is a Breast Form?

A breast form is otherwise known as a prosthesis or prosthetic and is used to fill out a bra to create the shape of a natural breast.

Why are the bras pocketed?

The majority of Pure Breast Care NZ Bras have bilateral pockets and are suitable after all types of surgery. The comfortable and secure pocket/COOLMAX FABRIC design means even if you don’t require a pocket you can benefit from products designed with your comfort and needs in mind. If you wear a prosthesis, place it in the pocket required. On the side where the pocket is not needed the design cleverly folds back into the cup and will act as a lining, allowing your natural breast to fill the cup.

Do Pure Breast Care Swimsuits have pockets?

Yes, our entire swimwear collection is pocketed to hold our sports prosthesis.

Which bra is good for use immediately after surgery?

When you have undergone breast surgery, it is important to have a comfortable bra to wear straight after mastectomy surgery. Your arm movement may be slightly restricted and stiff, especially if you have had lymph nodes removed, so we suggest a front fastening bra with easy front closure so you won’t need to struggle with a rear fastener. Our Hilary Bra (7060) or Comfy Bra is ideal after a mastectomy as it is pocketed to hold a softie. A softie is a lightweight temporary prosthesis which you will be given to wear for 6-8 weeks until you are fitted with a permanent silicone prosthesis. If you have had a reconstruction or a lumpectomy it is likely that you will not require a softie so a pocketed bra is not always necessary. However if there is a difference in the symmetry of your breasts a partial prosthesis and pocketed bra may be desirable.
Your breast care nurse, physio or surgeon may suggest finding a supportive sports bra or good compression bra.

Which bra should I wear after undergoing Radiotherapy Treatment?

After you have had a radiotherapy session you may want to consider a style that is super-comfortable to wear and extra soft against your skin. Our Comfy Bra is made from cotton material with soft pocket lining, ideal for wearing after treatment.

What is the ideal bra to wear if I have Lymphoedema?

The wide, slightly padded straps and deeper side wings makes the Lymph o fit Comfort bra or the Patricia bra an excellent choice if you are suffering from lymphoedema. The wider straps alleviate tension on the shoulder and won’t dig in like a narrower strap would, which can often aggravate lymphoedema. The wide sides offer some compression which also helps keep lymphoedema at bay. We offer a free fitting service for this bra and will only supply to you if you have been measured by one of our qualified fitters.

Can I wear underwired bras?

Pure Breast Care NZ says ‘No’ to underwire.
However if you like the support underwired bras provide it is possible to continue wearing them approximately 6-12 months after surgery. We strongly recommend you consult with your Breast Care Nurse before wearing one, as scar tissue will need to have completely healed and they can check that you are not showing any signs of lymphoedema. You should also be professionally fitted where possible to make sure the wires are sitting in the correct place. You can only wear a heart or oval shaped prosthesis with an underwired bra, so please check the shape of yours before you order.

Will you visit me at my own home?

Pure Breast Care NZ is very happy to visit you in the comfort of your own home. There is no cost for a home visit service.

Do you accept exchanges or refunds?

No exchanges or refunds on sale goods will be given.
However a store credit will be given if product is returned with labels attached and has not been worn. Attach a note with return.
